CORE CURRICULUM The Master-level core curriculum is an integral part of Sciences Po’s educational program, designed to provide students with knowledge and skills that will prepare them to face today’s changing world and to become themselves agents of change. Course offerings include thematic courses that cut across multiple disciplines, in the transdisciplinary tradition of Sciences Po. These courses combine intellectual resources from across the entire range of social sciences, bringing them to bear on crucial issues raised by contemporary society, issues which can often only be adequately addressed through a systemic and comprehensive approach. These classes provide a unique opportunity for Science Po students from different programs to mingle, and contribute to giving our students a cohesive identity and sense of community. Orientations and specific features Core courses are strongly informed by Sciences Po’s commitment to pedagogical innovation and are organized on a lecture format. Academic requirements All students enrolled in a Sciences Po Master program must choose two courses from the “core curriculum” during their Master coursework. Successful completion of these courses is required to obtain a Master’s degree. SOCIAL SCIENCES PROGRAM In order to enable students entering Sciences Po for the first time at the Master level to acquire the prerequisites necessary for their program, Sciences Po created an online social sciences program. This summer session, running from the beginning of June to early September, offers introductory courses in law, sociology, history, economics and political science. These preparatory courses, conceived in the same vein as the curriculum of the Sciences Po Undergraduate College, provide students with remedial social science training, in both terms of content and method. They combine online courses (audio and video) and a platform with supporting materials and exercises, both graded and self-graded. Students may complete all or only part of the courses, free of charge, according to their needs.
