Le Grand Syllabus 2017/2018
The program is intended for students seeking to acquire a solid competence in the analysis of social phenomena, drawing on a wide range of research tools. It enables students to go on to pursue doctoral studies (it is the only Master’s program at Sciences Po that offers access to the Doctoral program in sociology), but also prepares them for careers in international organizations, think tanks and in the field of consulting. The top students from the program wishing to continue their studies are admitted to the Doctoral program in sociology at Sciences Po, as well as to other Doctoral programs in France and abroad (for example, the European University Institute in Florence). Orientation and specific features The first year of the program is designed to provide general theoretical and methodological knowledge useful in all areas of research in the discipline. It also provides an introduction to the main lines of research of the two research centers at Sciences Po which host the majority of its sociologists: the OSC (Observatoire sociologique du changement) and the CSO (Center for the Sociology of Organizations). The second year consists primarily of elective courses intended to provide specialization in a particular area of interest. The final semester is dedicated to the writing of the Master’s thesis under the supervision of a member of the Department of Sociology.
