La recherche à Sciences Po / Research at Sciences Po
Data production support On the strength of its data management expertise, the CDSP provides support for the creation of databases and the conducting of survey questionnaires. The coordination team for the French portion of the European Social Survey (ESS) is based at the CDSP and is responsible for all the steps entailed in the survey’s operational implementation, data collection and data use. In addition, the CDSP’s ELIPSS team partners with different research teams for the creation of internet surveys. The CDSP has created an electoral data bank based on French electoral results at all levels. It collaborates on an ad hoc basis with Sciences Po research centers on their various research projects to assist in the creation of databases and the development of computer tools necessary for advancing research. For example, as a partner of the Joint International Laboratory (LIA) coordinated by the Center for International Research, the CDSP’s digital projects team participated in the creation of a database of Indian politicians. Development of social science methods The CDSP participates in the development of qualitative and quantitative social science methods through the organization of and participation in courses, trainings and summer schools. Through their visits to research centers and their participation in conferences, symposia and professional networks, CDSP engineers also contribute to thinking about methods by raising awareness about the reuse of survey data and the need to deposit them so as to make them more widely available. In the process, they share best practices for the preservation, anonymization and documentation of surveys.
