Écoles, masters et doctorats / Schools, Masters and Doctorates / École d’affaires publiques
The multidisciplinary approach—anchored in the social sciences but including new technologies, hard sciences, ethics, psychology, management and negotiation—gives students the tools they need to analyze this new world of public affairs in all its complexity. Enriched by its world-renowned research and reinforced by teaching from practitioners and decision makers of the highest caliber, the School of Public Affairs’ pedagogical program represents an integral part of Sciences Po’s core project: training through the encounter between thought and action. Combining basic knowledge, technical skills and an openness to all forms of knowledge, the School of Public Affairs strives to train total professionals, fully prepared for analysis and action, for conception and management—professionals with the training to find innovative solutions to the challenges of today and tomorrow, to make enlightened, honest and ethical decisions in a complex world. The School offers 5 programmes: • Two-year Master in Public Policy • Two-year Master in European Affairs • One-year Master in Public Affairs • One-year Master in Politics and Arts (SPEAP) • Preparation for French and European civil service exams Within each of the two-years Master’s programs, Students can choose to specialize in one of the following Policy Streams: In French: • Public Administration (including at the local level) • Security and Defense In French and English: • Energy, Resources and Sustainability • Global Health • Cultural Policy and Management In English: • Politics and Public Policy • Markets and Regulation • Economics and Public Policy • Management and Public Affairs • New Technologies and Public Policy • Social Policy and Social Innovation • Europe in the World (offered in PSIA, only for the Master in European Affairs) The School of Public Affairs has also developed a methodology series that brings students together to think about public policy, past and present. Innovative pedagogy is a big part of all the School’s programs: practical exercises, flipped classrooms, digital access to knowledge (e-courses, online modules, etc.). To integrate this strategy into the work of the School on a more lasting basis, the Policy Lab was created in 2016. The Policy Lab has developed a range of pedagogical tools (case study libraries, simulations, etc.), as well as two environments designed to enable students to develop novel projects and concrete and innovative solutions, in conjunction with the School’s public and private partner institutions, the public policy incubator and the democratic innovation project. The career opportunities available to graduates of the School of Public Affairs cover a wide range of fields, in both public and private sectors, and scales, from the local to the international. The School produces public policy thinkers as well as those ready to put it into practice.
