The Delage D8 is the model "luxury" of Delage brand. The model badged D8-100, chassis N°51597 is actually an authentic D8-120. Here is the history recounted by the historian of the Club "The Delage Friends" Mr. Daniel CABART. We thank him and this dynamic club! Immediately after his voluntary liquidation in April 1935, Louis Delage returns to work immediately with the help of the Delahaye company that was chosen to manufacture the new Delage, it offers very quickly a range of 4 and 6 cylinders 1935 Salon. But his ambition is of course to return to the highest level at the time of the D8 23 CV, winner of the majority of Concours
d'Elegance in the 30s. It therefore plans for this new model D8 to change the beautiful D8 105, last model produced before the closure of the Courbevoie manufacture, and studied by Michelat engineer. Thus in the 1935 Salon, the chassis already exposed in 1934 is again presented to customers. Unfortunately, things are not simple to achieve: the Delage equipment was sold and therefore we can not make this car faster. Delahaye does not manufacture 8 cylinders, but Delage engineers will develop very quickly, starting from
the Delahaye 18 hp 6-cylinder engine, an engine increased by 2 cylinders and borrowing from it most of its components. This engine of 4,300 l displacement develops 105 hp (D8100) and 115 hp (D8120). Thus is born the beautiful D8 100 (3.63 m wheelbase), which will receive limousine or sedan bodies, and the sportiest and shorter D8 120 (3.35 m wheelbase, one of the proposed model), rather to be dressed in convertible. In 1937, it is envisaged to increase the capacity of D8120, D8 100 keeping one of the 4,300l.
