Originally from France, this splendid Mercedes 250 SE coupé, painted in ivory white with Cartier red leather interior, has been jealously maintained by the same family since 1968. As the bill of sale proves, the uncle of the current owner bought the vehicle on July 5, 1968 at the Mercedes-Benz garage Foch de Toulon. It had at that time 44,000 km (27,340 miles) on the odometer. After the owner passed away in 1990, his wife gave the car to his nephew, as can be seen on the copy of the notarised document as well as on the certificate of transfer, dated in 1990. At that time the car’s odometer read 67,325 km (41,833 miles) and since then the car has not changed hands. This elegant coupé has a robust six-cylinder, 2.5-litre engine, and its supple, comfortable handling add to the prestige of this high-end model. Power steering and disc brakes make it easy to drive in modern traffic. Several technical inspections and service invoices can be found amongst its paperwork, showing its maintenance history and confirming its mileage. A major overhaul that included fluid changes and replacement of all the filters was performed in March of 2015. Since then, the car has travelled no more than 300 km (186 miles). It has never undergone any restoration work and yet it has remained in its magnificent original condition, and its inimitable patina has been miraculously preserved. The paint could use a thorough polish to bring back its true shine and splendour, but it is still in great condition, and so to is its chrome trim. The leather interior has a superb patina as well, despite a few tears and some darkened rings on the ceiling. The woodwork is in remarkably good condition, and the car’s entire structure is quite sound. The boot still has the original plastic mats. This car represents a unique opportunity to acquire one of the finest examples of the German savoir-faire for comfort. The well-known, 50-year history of this venerable car as well as coming in completely original condition make it a rare pearl among numerous restored versions of the same model.
