all the company’s goods were coming out of one country, and with an eye on the growing customer base in the United States, Central and South America, John Mayorek built a manufacturing plant in Costa Rica. Besides the plant supplementing supply and expediting deliveries to the new markets, it also served as insurance against any potential problems originating in China. As a young man, Lee worked hard to keep his business growing, and 30 years later nothing had changed. In 1989, he acquired a liquid beauty products manufacturing and filling plant in Rantoul, Illinois. Counting on his younger son’s steadfast reserve, commitment to quality control, and ability to run and grow a private label business, Lee put Denis in charge. Today, under Denis Rizzuto, this major facility fills orders for Conair, as well as for other leading professional and consumer products companies.

The Culinary Side of the Story
Food is a running theme throughout The Conair Story. Josephine’s Sunday dinners were legendary, and through the years, many local politicians and celebrities would find themselves at the Avenue T house sharing one of what her grandchildren called her “Sunday Thanksgiving Dinners” with two or three generations of Rizzutos. It was inevitable that Lee Rizzuto would eventually move his company into something culinary.
Lee built this single-item brand into one of the world’s most respected names in the high-end kitchen products business.
