More product called for more people and more space. In 1992, the Connecticut office expanded to 165,000 square feet to accommodate additional offices and new R&D and testing facilities. By 1993, contract filling and private label manufacturing operations had increased so much that Conair acquired Northstar Packaging, a liquid-product packette filling company in Illinois. The domestic personal care business continued its expansion. In 1996, oral care became a new category for the company with the acquisition of Interplak from Bausch & Lomb. A new line of massagers and foot care products was launched in 1997, and the haircare group introduced a steam straightener and a high-tech hot air brush that consumers loved. On the kitchen front, Cuisinart added coffeemakers to its product line in 1994, its first of several lines of cookware shortly thereafter, and regularly introduced new and innovative kitchen electrics for the growing home gourmet market. In 1998 Conair acquired the prestigious Waring brand, well known for its high-end commercial and consumer blenders. The combination of the respected Waring brand and the rapidly expanding Cuisinart line put the company in a powerful position in both consumer and commercial upscale kitchen appliance markets.
